One of the MB SD Connect 4 users reported that he cannot reset SBC brake for Mercedes-Benz W211 2005 with new DAS/XENTRY Star diagnostic software. Actually it will. Please follow the instructions below.

Connect Mb Star C4 Diagnostic mux with W211 and laptop.

Start Star diagnosis software.

Select chassis: SBC – Sensotronic Brake Control

​Select Control unit adaptions, and click on the tick button to continue.

Select Special functions and click on the tick button to continue.

Set a password as you like, then to continue.

Click OK.
Follow the instruction on the screen to reset SBC brake.

Resetting break counter to zero is in my opinion, not messing with …..

each time SBC powers up it checks itself time after time
If there occures any problem in SBC unit with valve, brushes or whatever, it will go into error anyway. that you will NOT be able to erase in Dev mode

If you switch on contact of Brand new MB with SBC and press break 300.000 times it will go into this so called “error” you wanna say SBC is broken then ? without driving a milimeter ?

No it’s indication to have SBC unit checked by MB workshop $$

Yes it’s true that MB has to replace Faulty SBC units for free
since Factory will pay all there labor & material
But most Dealers try to have costumer pay for this procedure claiming costumers car has no a Dealer serviced History

These powerful tools allow service personnel to display and analyze vital performance and health information from any system quickly and accurately.

Diagnostic Capabilities

Diagnostic Codes
The engine’s Electronic Control Module (ECM) has the ability to monitor the circuitry between the ECM and the engine’s components. The ECM also has the ability to monitor the engine’s operating conditions. If the ECM detects a problem, a code is generated.

There are three categories of codes:
-Diagnostic Code
-Event Code
-Flash Code

Diagnostic Code - A diagnostic code indicates an electrical problem such as a short or an open in the engine’s wiring or in an electrical component.
Event Code – An event code is generated by the detection of an abnormal engine operating condition. For example, an event code will be generated if the oil pressure is too low. In this case, the event code indicates the symptom of a problem. Event codes indicate mechanical problems rather than electrical problems.
Flash Code – Diagnostics and events are reported via flash codes. When a diagnostic code or an event code becomes active, the specific condition is immediately reported to the operator through a series of flashes on the diagnostic lamp. By counting the flashes, a numeric representation of the diagnostic code or event code is revealed.

Codes can have two different states:
-Active
-Logged
Active Codes – An active code indicates that a problem is present. Service the active code first.

Logged Codes – The codes are logged and stored in the ECM memory. The problem may have been repaired and/or the problem may no longer exist. If the system is powered, it is possible to generate an active diagnostic code whenever a component is disconnected. If the component is reconnected, the code is no longer active but the code may become logged.
-Logged codes may not indicate that a repair is needed. The problem may have been temporary.
-Logged codes may be useful to help troubleshoot intermittent problems. Logged codes can also be used to review the performance of the engine and of the electronic system.

This software may disturb/block the vi- recognitoin routine of c3+.

in my case (using a passthru device) i disconnected the internet connection, deactivated the auto protect function and after starting c3+ again, the led became green….

I think to remember , you have to connect the original vi to the car and the laptop, both. Only connection to the laptop is not enough for c3+ to recognize the original vi.

2: check usb circuit on pcb and usb sockets on pc

If you have basic knowledge of checking the pcb and components internally, check the usb circuit etc. and have a try on another laptop to eliminate faulty usb sockets on pc

3: check wires, solder breaks, etc.

Use a multimeter and check for broken wires between obd plug and pcb , check for solder breaks on pcb where plugs and connections are soldered to, basic fault finding, check for pcb damage like scorch marks or discoloration and components for signs of stress or damage, use a high power magnifier.

4: check continuity

Then its a case of deeper fault finding using things like scope, function generator etc, check continuity with cable plugged into the interface in case one of the contacts is bad then follow connections as far as you can on pcb to check for breaks on the board.
